Getting started offers a range of activities designed to introduce the NCIS, the data contained within it and the services offered by the NCIS Unit.

General information session

The NCIS General information session provides an overview of the NCIS, how it came about, what it is and how it works. Attendees will gain an understanding of how NCIS data may be accessed and the services offered by the NCIS Unit.

All general information sessions are delivered online and include a presentation and Q&A time. A Microsoft Teams account is not required to join the session.

 

General information session - Open to the public

This session may be beneficial for researchers who are considering applying to use NCIS data, current approved NCIS users, court staff, data report recipients and other stakeholders.

Sessions are offered on a quarterly basis and are open to anyone to attend.

Getting started for approved users

Induction information and training is provided to approved death investigators and third party researchers to equip them with knowledge and skills to best utilise the NCIS for their approved purpose.

 

Death investigators

Getting started for death investigators provides an overview of the NCIS and additional information about the NCIS relevant to the user type. 

All new approved death investigators are provided with a getting started pack as part of the induction process.

 

Coders

Getting started for coders provides an overview of the NCIS and additional information about the NCIS relevant to the user type. This training is incorporated into the NCIS Classroom coder introduction training.

 

Third party researchers

Getting started for third party researchers provides an overview of the NCIS and additional information about the NCIS relevant to the user type.

The NCIS Unit runs induction sessions for all new and renewed approved third party projects which all researchers are expected to attend.

 

Getting started for coroners and court managers

Induction information is available to all coroners and coronial court managers to provide further information about the NCIS relevant to their roles and an overview of services available.

Getting started for coroners provides additional information about the NCIS relevant to their roles. This pack is provided when a coroner becomes an approved NCIS death investigator.
